Racing Club de Avellaneda defeat Cruzeiro in the Copa Sudamericana Final
Racing Club triumphed in the CONMEBOL Copa Sudamericana Final, beating Cruzeiro 3-1 to claim the championship. The goals for Racing came from Gastón Martirena, Adrián Martínez, and Roger Martínez, while Kaio Jorge scored the lone goal for the Brazilian side.
Martirena kicked off the scoring in spectacular fashion, delivering what might be the goal of the tournament. In the 15th minute, after a perfect pass from star playmaker Juan Fernando Quintero, the Argentine fired a rocket from outside the box to give Racing the lead—redeeming himself after having an earlier goal disallowed.
Adrián “El Maravilla” Martínez doubled the lead just five minutes later, finishing off a brilliant team move. Maximiliano Salas burst down the wing and sent in a precise cross, leaving Martínez with an easy tap-in to make it 2-0. Cruzeiro fought back in the second half, with Kaio Jorge cutting the deficit in the 52nd minute. The Brazilian striker headed home a well-placed cross, catching Racing goalkeeper Gabriel Arias off guard and sparking hope for a comeback.
However, Racing shut the door on Cruzeiro’s dreams with a late goal from Roger Martínez in stoppage time, sealing the 3-1 victory. With this win, Racing celebrated their first-ever Copa Sudamericana title under the leadership of coach Gustavo Costas, a lifelong fan of the club, and an attack powered by Juan Fernando Quintero and Adrián Martínez.
