Sent Off! Messi's Clash with Medel in 2019
Messi has been sent off twice with Argentina. The first time was in his debut with the Albiceleste. The other was this one and happened at the Copa America.
Lionel Messi was enraged, nearly came to blows, and was ultimately sent off. These were different times for the Albiceleste, and that's how the Argentine's participation ended during the 2019 Copa America, where Scaloni was just taking his first steps as national coach.
At 36 minutes into the game in São Paulo, Messi chased a ball down the end line and collided with Gary Medel. The Argentine bumped the Chilean with his shoulder, leading to an exchange of words. The red card was shown to both without consulting VAR.
We all know Medel is a hot-headed player, and for Messi, this was the second red card he has received in his entire career with Argentina, with the first coming during his debut.
Argentina went on to have a Copa America full of ups and downs, but now they arrive as one of the definite favorites for the competition to be held in the United States.
