Will Courtois Play the Copa del Rey Semifinal Second Leg Against Real Sociedad?
Thibaut Courtois remains a major doubt for Real Madrid ahead of the second leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals against Real Sociedad. The Belgian goalkeeper is still recovering from a muscle injury suffered during international duty and has yet to train with the group.
Courtois Still Working on the Sidelines
Courtois missed the recent LaLiga clash against Leganés and continues to train separately. On Sunday, he again worked individually at Valdebebas, raising doubts about his availability for the decisive cup match.
Despite the uncertainty, Carlo Ancelotti and the medical staff have not ruled him out completely and will assess his condition during Monday’s training session. Even if fit, Andriy Lunin, who has been the starting keeper in the Copa del Rey, is expected to retain his place between the posts.
In the first leg in San Sebastián, Real Madrid secured a narrow 1-0 win, courtesy of a goal from Jude Bellingham, setting up a tight return leg at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Ancelotti Planning with Rotations
Following the hard-fought 3-2 comeback win over Leganés, Real Madrid resumed training on Sunday. Key players like Vinícius Jr., Rodrygo, Fede Valverde, and Aurélien Tchouaméni, who were rested or benched in LaLiga, trained at full intensity.
David Alaba, Jesús Vallejo, and Endrick were also part of the session, while the starters from Saturday followed a lighter recovery routine with physiotherapy.

Real Madrid’s Injury List Grows
Alongside Courtois’ uncertainty, Ferland Mendy, Dani Carvajal, Éder Militão, and Dani Ceballos are all ruled out. Ancelotti faces a challenging task managing a depleted squad in a demanding stretch of fixtures.
The final training session before the match, scheduled for Monday at 11:00 CET (10:00 GMT), will be decisive in determining Courtois’ status. While Lunin is expected to start, Courtois’ progress could decide whether he makes the bench or remains sidelined for another key encounter.
