Farke rues missed chances as Leeds dumped out of FA Cup by Millwall
Leeds United lost a home FA Cup game for the first time since 2011 as Femi Azeez's brace booked Millwall's place in the fifth round.
Daniel Farke was left to rue missed opportunities after Leeds United were dumped out of the FA Cup by fellow Championship side Millwall following a 2-0 defeat at Elland Road.
Leeds lost their first home game in the competition since a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal in a third-round replay in January 2011, ending a six-game unbeaten run at home in the FA Cup.
Femi Azeez put Millwall ahead on the half-hour mark, cutting in from the left before his strike took a wicked deflection off Josuha Guilavogui that wrong-footed Karl Darlow.
The Millwall attacker then fired home his, and the Lions' second, 10 minutes after the restart, rifling in at the near post after he collected Casper De Norre's pass on the left.
Leeds had the chance to reduce the deficit shortly afterwards when Luke Cundle fouled Wilfried Gnonto inside the box, but Pascal Struijk saw his penalty saved by Liam Roberts.
"We need to move on quickly. I know when you're not at your best pace it's not always that easy," Farke said after the game.
"It's important the players don't take this defeat too seriously. We should be disappointed, but on my side, no moaning about this.
"They were motivated, perhaps too motivated to try more. Congrats to Millwall. Overall, I mentioned before the game that to rotate is necessary and important to do this.
"If you change 10 players it doesn't help the fluidity of the schedule. The players went to bed at 3am on Thursday... so we have many changes.
"We played too complicated at times in the first half. One of those days when the first goal was deflected into the corner.
"We were not clinical. I like the players trying until the last second. Disappointed with the outcome today. We lost a bit of fluidity due to changes but no complaints."
Millwall, meanwhile, advanced to the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time since 2018-19, when they went on to reach the quarter-finals of the competition.
The Lions have now won three consecutive away games across all competitions in the same season for the first time since March 2018 under Neil Harris (run of four).
