Savinho hopeful Man City can restore confidence in FA Cup
Savinho believes Man City can put their heavy defeat to Arsenal behind them with a strong showing away to Leyton Orient in the FA Cup.
Savinho believes Manchester City’s FA Cup fourth-round trip to Leyton Orient is a great opportunity to put their heavy 5-1 defeat to Arsenal behind them.
City conceded four goals in 37 crazy second-half minutes at the Emirates to consign them to yet another defeat in the Premier League last Sunday, which leaves them fifth in the table.
Nevertheless, the Brazilian winger believes a free week in the schedule has allowed the team to “reflect” on what went wrong in London and the ways in which they can improve ahead of their visit to League Two opposition on Saturday.
"It's been good to have that free week without a game," Savinho told ESPN.
"Obviously it's been a full week, we've all had things to do. It has given us a great opportunity to think about the game last Sunday, to reflect on it.
"Of course, [the FA Cup] comes quickly. We're travelling down to London and it's another final for us."
The title is surely now out of reach for City, while they were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Tottenham and face a tough two-legged knockout tie against Real Madrid in the Champions League this month, leaving the FA Cup as their most likely chance of silverware this season.
Manager Pep Guardiola has a strong record in the competition, having won the trophy in 2019 and 2023, while they have made the final on the last two occasions.
Savinho is hopeful of another deep run for the club this year as he searches for his first trophy in English football.
“Every tournament is a target for me,” Savinho said.
“Unfortunately, we are out of the EFL Cup, Spurs knocked us out of that, but we've got to look at every trophy as an objective and this is a great opportunity to progress.
"It's a great opportunity for us, but it's one we have to take because if we don't [beat Leyton Orient] we're out. It's as simple as that. So it's going to be like a final for us.
“We lose, we have to go home, so hopefully we can put in a good performance, get our confidence back and go first to the next round.”
