Cristiano Ronaldo Breaks Record and Is the Top Scorer for Portugal in World Cups
With his brace against Uzbekistan, CR7 reached 10 goals and surpassed Eusebio, in addition to scoring in six consecutive editions.
Cristiano broke another record
Cristiano Ronaldo has once again written his name in the great history of world soccer and, once again, he did so wearing the Portugal jersey. In the second match of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, the Al Nassr striker scored two goals in the first half that not only secured the partial victory over Uzbekistan, but also allowed him to achieve a unique record: becoming his national team's top scorer in World Cups.
With this brace, CR7 reached 10 goals in World Cups, surpassing the record of Eusébio, who had been the historical benchmark with 9 goals since his unforgettable performance in England 1966. Behind them are Pauleta and José Augusto with 4 goals, and more recently Gonçalo Ramos with 3. The table confirms what is already evident: Ronaldo is the absolute symbol of goals in Portuguese history
The only one to score in 6 World Cups
But the record doesn't end there. The Portuguese captain also became the only player to score in six different editions of the tournament, Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, Russia 2018, Qatar 2022, and now the United States, Mexico, and Canada 2026. A feat that places him on an unattainable pedestal and reaffirms his relevance at 41 years old.
Portugal is close to qualifying
Ronaldo's impact goes beyond statistics. His presence continues to be a driving force for a squad that combines experience and youth under the leadership of Roberto Martínez. With four points in the group, Portugal is close to qualifying for the round of 16, although it will still have to fight for the lead against a strong opponent like Colombia. There, once again, all eyes will be on Cristiano, the man who carries the hopes of a country
