The Inter Miami captain even appeared to send a subtle message to Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Messi wants Neymar at the World Cup
Speaking on Lo del Pollo, Messi admitted he cannot separate friendship from football analysis when discussing Neymar.
“I can’t be objective, Neymar is a friend”.
The World Cup winner made it clear he hopes to see Neymar back on football’s biggest stage.
“I would love for him to be at the World Cup and for beautiful things to happen to him because he deserves it”.
Messi downplays Neymar’s physical condition
Messi also stressed that Neymar’s quality outweighs any concerns about fitness.
“At World Cups, we want the best players there, and Ney, no matter his condition, will always be one of them”.
He added that Neymar’s presence would be important for both Brazil and football itself.
“It would be beautiful to see him at the World Cup for what he means to Brazil and to football”.
When did Neymar last play for Brazil?
The Santos forward has not played for Brazil since October 2023.
His last appearance came against Uruguay in World Cup qualifying, where he played 45 minutes.
