World-Class Pitch Awaits Spain for World Cup Semifinal
Spain and France will play on a meticulously prepared natural grass surface in Dallas after the stadium underwent a major transformation ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Spain's World Cup semifinal against France will be played on one of the most advanced playing surfaces in the tournament after Dallas' stadium completed a remarkable transformation ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Originally equipped with artificial turf, the venue replaced it with a natural grass field specifically for the tournament. The grass was grown in Colorado before being transported to Arlington, Texas, where specialists carefully installed and prepared the surface according to FIFA's strict requirements.
Groundskeepers confirmed that the pitch will be maintained at a height of 23 millimeters, matching the standards commonly used in Europe's top professional leagues. The carefully controlled length is intended to encourage fast, technical football and smooth ball movement.
The playing surface has also benefited from eight days of recovery since the stadium's previous World Cup match. In addition, a sophisticated lighting system featuring large grow lights supplements the natural sunlight entering through the stadium's transparent roof and open ends, ensuring the grass remains in perfect condition.
Beyond the pitch itself, the venue underwent significant upgrades to its locker rooms, player facilities and fan areas, transforming one of the NFL's most iconic stadiums into a world-class football venue. With every detail carefully planned, Spain will take the field on Tuesday knowing the conditions are ideal for the possession-based style that has defined the team throughout the tournament, as it looks to book a place in the World Cup final.
