Guatemala Holds Uruguay to a Draw in Friendly Match
Uruguay and Guatemala ended their international friendly with a 1-1 draw, with goals from Lucas Pino for Uruguay and Pedro Altán for Guatemala.
The match, played at Chase Stadium, saw the Guatemalan team, led by Mexican coach Luis Fernando Tena—who famously won the Olympic gold with Mexico in 2012—secure a draw against the FIFA 11th-ranked Uruguay, despite Guatemala being ranked 107th.
Before the match began, both teams came together to pay tribute to Juan Manuel Izquierdo with a banner reading, "Juan Manuel Izquierdo… forever in our hearts," and a minute of silence was observed in his memory.
Uruguay took an early lead in the 21st minute, but couldn't hold off the offensive charge led by Pedro Altán, who scored the equalizer in the 67th minute, securing a hard-fought draw against the two-time World Cup champions.
