(VIDEO) Rodri Names Messi “The Greatest of All Time” and Explains Why Cristiano Ronaldo Is Not
Rodrigo Hernández, the most recent Ballon d'Or winner, has made a revelation that resonates with many figures associated with football: the Euro Cup champion with Spain never considered choosing Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo.
Better known as Rodri, he dared to answer the question posed by the hosts about who is the best player in history, and the Manchester City player chose the Argentine.
"Cristiano has managed to equal Messi without innate talent. But those of us who played against them realize the difference. We didn’t want Cristiano to enter the box; he was lethal there. But with Messi, it happened all over the field," he said in his interview with "El Hormiguero."
"When the ball reached Messi, you'd think, 'Danger.' When I started playing against him, I’d try to take the ball away, and he’d dodge me like a bullfighter," said the Spanish national team player, concluding by saying that when Messi touched the ball, "the feeling I had was that something bad was about to happen."
Additionally, the Spanish footballer shared his opinion on the awards that his compatriots from the previous generation should have received. "In my opinion, Spain had one of the brightest moments in football history. It's curious that we only had one Ballon d'Or. It was unfair that this golden generation didn't receive the recognition it deserved, and I wanted to pay tribute to them," Rodri said.
Finally, the national team midfielder sent a message of encouragement to those affected by the DANA storm: "I want to express all my support to our brothers; there are people who have lost everything. Spain is showing itself to be a united country. My heartfelt wish is that they recover as quickly as possible."
