Ancelotti Blasts Referee After Bellingham’s Controversial Red Card Against Osasuna
Carlo Ancelotti did not hold back in criticizing referee Munuera Montero following Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw against Osasuna at El Sadar. The Italian coach voiced his frustration over recent refereeing decisions, specifically highlighting the controversial expulsion of Jude Bellingham.
Bellingham’s Red Card and the Translation Controversy
The most heated moment of the match came late in the game, when Bellingham received a red card for allegedly using inappropriate language toward the referee. However, Ancelotti defended the English midfielder, claiming the decision was a result of a translation error.
"He didn’t understand English correctly because Bellingham said ‘fuck off,’ not ‘fuck you’. The translation was wrong; it actually means ‘don’t mess with me’. It’s not offensive," Ancelotti explained in the post-match press conference.
The Real Madrid manager insisted that Bellingham did nothing to warrant a red card, attributing the decision to the referee’s nervousness.
"The red card shows the referee was nervous, nothing more," he added.
Ancelotti Slams Recent Refereeing Decisions
Beyond the Osasuna match, Ancelotti recalled similar incidents in recent games, including the Madrid Derby against Atlético and the away match vs. Espanyol.
"Things have happened in these last three matches that everyone has seen. I won’t say more because I want to be on the bench for the next game," he remarked.
The Italian coach also questioned the lack of VAR interventions, arguing that certain penalty area incidents were not reviewed.
"The VAR did not check key situations in the opposing penalty area, even though there were two or three plays that should have been reviewed," he criticized.
