Ancelotti Shares His Thoughts on Dean Huijsen's Signing With Real Madrid
Though he won’t coach Dean Huijsen at Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti praised the young defender’s arrival and reaffirmed the club’s commitment to building for the future.
Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, in his final days at Real Madrid before taking over the Brazil national team, spoke about the club’s recent signing of center-back Dean Huijsen. The 20-year-old defender, who arrives from Bournemouth, was met with praise from the veteran manager, who highlighted his potential.

“Huijsen is a great young player with a lot of potential. It’s a very smart signing by Real Madrid. Every new addition excites me because this club always strives to be the best, and this proves it will continue to do so,” said Ancelotti during a press conference at Valdebebas.
No Complaints About the Lack of Defensive Reinforcements
Throughout the 2024–25 season, Ancelotti faced major defensive issues due to serious injuries to key players like Eder Militão and Dani Carvajal. Despite this, the coach made it clear he had no complaints toward the club's leadership.
“Last year it didn’t seem necessary because Alaba, Militão, and Carvajal were healthy. But then the injuries came during the season and really affected us. We thought about it, we discussed it, but every decision made was coordinated with the coaching staff,” he explained.
He also mentioned that while similar situations had been overcome in past seasons, this campaign proved to be more challenging.
Reflecting on a Legacy Filled With Top Signings
In his parting remarks, Ancelotti reflected on the support he received during his tenure, especially in terms of player acquisitions. “Since I’ve been here, the club has listened to me. They’ve signed players like Camavinga, Rüdiger, Tchouaméni, Bellingham, and now Mbappé. Could I have asked for more? No.”
With more trophies than any other manager in Real Madrid’s storied history, Carlo Ancelotti leaves behind a strong foundation. The signing of Dean Huijsen adds to that legacy, as the young center-back prepares to make his mark under the club’s next managerial project.
