Flick Disheartened After Barcelona’s Loss to Las Palmas: "It’s a Huge Disappointment"
Hansi Flick, head coach of FC Barcelona, expressed his frustration following the team’s 1-2 defeat to UD Las Palmas on Saturday. The loss extends Barcelona’s winless streak in LaLiga EA Sports to three matches, intensifying the pressure on the German coach.
Match Analysis
Speaking at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys press room, Flick labeled the result as "a huge disappointment" and pointed to the team’s lack of efficiency in front of goal as the main issue:
"We created opportunities but didn’t capitalize on them. We had 70% possession and 27 shots," Flick explained.
Regarding defensive issues, Flick emphasized that they stem from the team as a whole rather than just the backline:
"Defense isn’t just about the last four players; it’s about the entire team working together, as we did at the start of the season. Mistakes were made, but they started up front, not just at the back."
Flick also underlined the impact of Las Palmas’ second goal:
"That goal killed us. The players tried for the full 90 minutes, but it didn’t work out. We didn’t make the most of our chances."
Expectations for the Future
Flick admitted that he expected more from the substitutions in the second half and commented on Dani Olmo’s absence, citing "minor issues" that kept him sidelined:
"We didn’t want to take any risks because we need him for the upcoming matches. He adds a lot of quality," Flick said, hoping Olmo will be available for Tuesday’s clash against Mallorca.
Despite the recent poor results, Flick expressed confidence in his team’s ability:
"I have an excellent squad, and I trust my players’ quality. When we play as a team, when everyone defends and attacks together, we can beat anyone. But if some players aren’t engaged, things go wrong."
Barcelona, having secured just one point from their last three matches, will aim to turn things around against Mallorca on Tuesday as they fight to stay in contention for the top spots in LaLiga EA Sports.
