How Many Matches Has Correa Been Suspended for His Insults to the Referee in the Getafe vs Atlético de Madrid Match?
Ángel Correa has been handed a five-match suspension for the insults directed at the referee in the Getafe vs Atlético de Madrid match
With just hours to go before facing Real Madrid at the Metropolitano in search of a comeback to try and reach the Champions League quarterfinals, Atlético de Madrid were notified of the sanction imposed on Ángel Correa after the insults directed by the Argentine forward at the referee during the Getafe vs Atlético de Madrid match.

Five-match suspension for Correa
Sent off in the 88th minute of the match for a kick in the middle of the field on Djené, which led to the start of Getafe’s comeback against Atlético de Madrid, Ángel Correa was facing a 12-match suspension that could have ended his season in LaLiga after 27 matches played. However, he was lucky as the sanction was much less severe.
As stated by the Spanish Football Federation’s Disciplinary Committee in a statement issued this morning, it was decided that, ultimately, Correa received the minimum sanction stipulated for such cases. Therefore, he will only miss four matches for the insults aimed at the referee… plus one additional match for the red card.
What matches will Correa miss with Atlético de Madrid?
After the match, Ángel Correa publicly apologized for his insults: "My respect for referees is total, and this reaction is not typical of me. I was very upset for leaving the team with ten players in such a delicate moment, and I reacted in the worst way. I hope you accept my most sincere apologies."
Perhaps this statement from Correa helped him receive the minimum sanction stipulated under Article 99 of the Disciplinary Code. This is a significant loss for Atlético de Madrid, as he will miss the upcoming LaLiga matches against Barcelona, Espanyol, Sevilla, and Valladolid… as well as the Copa del Rey return leg against Barcelona.
