Mbappé Wins Pichichi and Golden Boot Despite Trophyless Season at Real Madrid
Kylian Mbappé wrapped up his debut season at Real Madrid as the most prolific scorer in Europe. The Frenchman won LaLiga’s Pichichi with 31 goals and also claimed the 2024/25 European Golden Boot, edging out top strikers like Viktor Gyökeres and Mohamed Salah. Yet, his individual accolades came in a campaign where Madrid failed to win either LaLiga or the Champions League.
Dominant debut in Spain
Mbappé lit up LaLiga from day one, scoring 31 goals in 34 matches to finish ahead of Robert Lewandowski, who ended with 27. He became the first Real Madrid player to win the Pichichi in his debut season since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2010/11.
First Golden Boot for Kylian
Thanks to his goal tally in one of Europe's top five leagues, Mbappé accumulated 62 points in the Golden Boot standings, surpassing Gyökeres (39 goals in Portugal, 58.5 points) and Salah (29 goals in the Premier League, 58 points). It marks the first time Mbappé has ever won the award, which eluded him during his time at PSG.

A season without major silverware
Despite his spectacular numbers, Real Madrid failed to deliver in the biggest competitions. They were overtaken by FC Barcelona in the LaLiga title race, and were eliminated in the later stages of the Champions League, leaving fans and pundits with more doubts than celebrations.
The team’s last shot at a trophy this season will be at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, held in the United States starting June 18, where Mbappé will have the chance to lift his first piece of silverware with Los Blancos.
A new era under Xabi Alonso
With Xabi Alonso set to take over as head coach next season, Madrid is preparing for a structural reboot. The Spanish tactician will inherit a Mbappé in peak form—already the team’s offensive leader—and will be tasked with turning goals into trophies.
Individually, Mbappé lived up to the hype. But in Madrid, goals are just the beginning—titles are the standard.
