Xabi Alonso Confirms Rodrygo’s Importance: “We Will Need Him”
Xabi Alonso, newly appointed head coach of Real Madrid, addressed one of the hottest topics surrounding the club during his official presentation: the future of Rodrygo Goes. With recent speculation about a possible exit, Alonso didn’t hesitate to share his stance:
“Rodrygo is a Real Madrid player, and I will speak with everyone who is part of Real Madrid,” he said firmly.
While avoiding specifics on private talks, Alonso made it clear that Rodrygo remains central to his plans:
“Rodrygo is a spectacular player—and we will need him. He deserves it, and so do we,” the coach added, expressing full confidence in the Brazilian forward.
No demands, but a clear vision
The former Bayer Leverkusen coach also clarified his approach to team building:
“I haven’t come here with demands. I’m here to work, to communicate with the club, and to improve what we already have. This is a great squad, and I’m eager to get started.”
He also spoke about Luka Modrić, with whom he shared the midfield between 2012 and 2014:
“With Luka, I can’t be objective. We had a great connection on the pitch. He later became the orchestra conductor. He’s a true Real Madrid legend. I had a chat with him today, and I’ll have the privilege of coaching him at the Club World Cup—that really excites me.”

Mbappé, Vinícius, and the power of unity
When asked about handling superstars like Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior, Alonso welcomed the challenge:
“We’re lucky to have players of that level. They’re game-changers. We have to maximize everything they bring. I want a real connection with them about what we’re trying to build. For me, collective commitment will be the key to success.”
With clarity, humility, and ambition, Xabi Alonso outlined his vision for the new Real Madrid, placing faith in his stars and promising a project built on unity and shared responsibility.
