Éder Militão Gets Green Light to Return With Real Madrid

  • After five months on the sidelines, Éder Militão has successfully passed another medical evaluation and entered the final stage of his recovery. Real Madrid is now preparing for his gradual return to team training.

Militão Passes a Key Test Ahead of His Real Madrid Return

Éder Militão’s recovery has entered its final stage.

According to Marca, Dr. Lasse Lempainen traveled to Madrid to personally examine the Brazilian and meet with Real Madrid’s medical and performance staff. The Finnish specialist was the surgeon who operated on the center back on April 28 after he suffered a tear of the proximal tendon of the left biceps femoris.

The outcome of the visit was positive. Militão continues to meet the expected recovery timeline and has received the green light to take another step forward in his rehabilitation and gradually rejoin team training.

Lempainen later celebrated the player’s progress on social media and explained that the ultimate objective is not simply for him to return to the field, but to help him regain his highest competitive level.

Five Months Later, Mourinho Is Close to Getting His Center Back Back

Militão’s last official appearance came on April 21 against Alavés. Shortly afterward, tests conducted by Real Madrid’s medical staff revealed an injury to his left biceps femoris, and the Brazilian ultimately required surgery.

The operation also ended any possibility of representing Brazil at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Reuters reported at the time that the injury would force the center back to miss the tournament, while Real Madrid officially confirmed that the surgery had been successfully performed by Lempainen under the supervision of the club’s medical staff.

Now, five months later, the situation is finally beginning to change.

For José Mourinho, recovering Militão would mean adding another natural option at center back at a time when injuries have repeatedly forced the Portuguese coach to make adjustments to his defensive line.

Real Madrid Will Not Take Any Risks With Militão

Receiving medical clearance to increase his workload does not mean Militão will immediately return to the squad.

The next challenge will be recovering the rhythm, stamina and confidence required to handle the demands of a full match again. The Brazilian has already completed physical work on the field during his rehabilitation and must now complete the transition back into full team training.

At the beginning of September, Real Madrid itself still listed him among the players continuing their respective recovery programs.

Marca points to October as the likely window for his return to competitive action, but the club intends to move forward according to his condition and progress without publicly establishing a definitive comeback date.

After everything that has happened over the past few years, a few more or fewer days are no longer what matters most.

The priority is making sure that this time, when he returns, he can stay on the field.

Injuries Have Turned Every Comeback Into Another Challenge

The latest surgery is only another chapter in an extremely difficult few years for Militão.

In August 2023, he suffered a torn ACL in his left knee. After making his comeback, he sustained another devastating injury in November 2024, tearing the ACL in his right knee with meniscus damage. The player later acknowledged that after the second injury, he even considered walking away from soccer.

His 2025/26 season did not provide much continuity either. Another muscular problem suffered against Celta de Vigo kept him out for approximately four months before he returned in April. He had played only five matches before suffering another injury against Alavés.

This time, the injury required surgery and another five months of rehabilitation.

That is why the best news for Real Madrid is not simply that Militão is close to returning. After a string of injuries that has defined the past few seasons of his career, the Brazilian has cleared another important hurdle in his attempt to permanently reclaim his place in the team.

  • Éder Militão successfully passed another medical evaluation and is getting closer to rejoining Real Madrid training.
  • The Brazilian has been sidelined for five months after undergoing surgery performed by Lasse Lempainen to repair a tear of the proximal tendon of his left biceps femoris.
  • His competitive return is expected to come in October, although Real Madrid plans to handle the final stages of his recovery with maximum caution.
