Anthony Gordon’s adaptation to FC Barcelona is progressing even faster than expected. The English winger has made a very positive impression during his first few days with the Blaugrana, and Hansi Flick is particularly pleased with both his physical condition and the way he has integrated into the squad.

According to RAC1, Gordon arrived for preseason in excellent physical shape and quickly adapted to the intensity of the training sessions. His ability to speak Spanish has also helped off the pitch, making communication with his new teammates much easier from the very beginning.

For the Englishman, this new chapter also carries special meaning. Gordon had previously spoken about his dream of one day wearing the Barcelona shirt, and he is now taking advantage of his first few weeks to show why the club decided to make such a significant investment in him.

Flick Is Already Testing New Options With Gordon

One of the things that interests Flick the most is everything Gordon can bring to the attack.

The German coach has tried to use the Englishman primarily in his natural position out wide, but his arrival also creates the possibility of moving other pieces around.

One of the variations Flick has tested is using Lamine Yamal in a more central position, even as a No. 9 or false nine, giving Gordon greater freedom to attack from the flank.

The idea is not necessarily to permanently change the starting attack, but rather to have different solutions depending on the opponent and the situation of the match. Gordon’s speed, ability to attack open spaces and intensity without the ball offer different qualities to an attack that already has plenty of talent.

Positive Signs Against Basel

The friendly against Basel provided another positive sign.

Gordon played 45 minutes and looked comfortable, involved and, most importantly, confident on the field. He is still learning the movements of his new teammates, but physically he appears ready to compete from the beginning of the season.

That is precisely what has impressed the coaching staff the most.

After a deal worth close to €80 million, expectations surrounding the Englishman are understandably high. Barcelona wanted a player capable of providing pace and one-on-one ability out wide, but also someone who would allow Flick to change his attacking setup without sacrificing speed.

So far, the early signs are positive.
