Barcelona Head to Spanish Super Cup With a Surprise in the Squad
Ronald Araujo returns to Barcelona’s squad for the 2026 Spanish Super Cup
Uruguayan international Ronald Araujo, absent in recent weeks due to mental health issues, has been included in Barcelona’s squad for the 2026 Spanish Super Cup, which will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The ‘Charrúa’ center-back, who resumed training at the same pace as his teammates last week, is the main addition to the first-team delegation, which travels on Monday to Jeddah to face Athletic Club in the tournament’s first semifinal on Wednesday.
Araujo, who had been sidelined following the red card he received against Chelsea on November 25, is part of the 24-player squad announced by Barcelona after the final training session at the Joan Gamper Sports City.
According to coach Hansi Flick, the participation of one of the team captains will depend on how he feels after the rest period granted by the club.
With Araujo back in the squad, Barcelona has only two absences as they compete for their first title of 2026: midfielder Pablo Páez Gavira ‘Gavi’ and center-back Andreas Christensen, who remain in Barcelona to continue their recovery.
