Flick Makes It Clear: Lamine Yamal Needs to Be Rested
FC Barcelona faces Sevilla in a match that promises to be quite challenging. The Andalusian side needs points and often raises its level when playing against the Catalan club.
Hansi Flick is aware that he must manage his squad wisely, especially with the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Newcastle in mind. The tie is still wide open, and the team did not show its best performance in the match in England.
For this reason, the German coach is considering giving one of his most dynamic players, Lamine Yamal, some rest. The idea is for the young forward to arrive fully fresh for the European clash.
During the pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Sevilla, Flick was asked about the possible participation of the Spanish player and hinted at his plan: “We’ll see if he rests,” he commented, suggesting that Yamal might not play in a key match to stay at the top of the standings.
It is worth noting that Lamine Yamal missed several training sessions with Barcelona due to illness. For this reason, the coach prefers that the player fully recovers before counting on him in the game against the “Magpies.”
Gavi Ready to Return with Caution
One player who could see action—and this is great news for Barça fans—is Gavi. Flick confirmed that the midfielder might get some minutes, but emphasized that the coaching staff will proceed very cautiously.
The Spanish midfielder is in the process of recovering from a ligament injury and has not played an official match since September of last year. This type of injury requires a gradual reintegration, so the coach wants to avoid any unnecessary risk.
Flick assured that he sees Gavi eager and enthusiastic to play again, but stressed that they will not rush his return.
Barcelona is starting to recover players while also managing the workload of others to approach the final stretch of the season in the best way, with the aim of competing for all titles and chasing a double.
