Gavi Reveals What He Told Vinicius During Barcelona’s Title-Clinching Clásico Win
The tension between the two stars exploded once again… and now Gavi has broken his silence.
A heated Clásico from start to finish
Barcelona secured another LaLiga title after defeating Real Madrid 2-0 in an El Clásico filled with goals, tension, provocations, and several heated confrontations on the pitch.
And as often happens in matches of this magnitude, two familiar protagonists once again fueled the rivalry: Gavi and Vinicius Junior.
“I told him to shut his mouth”
After the match, the Barcelona midfielder openly discussed the intense exchange he had with the Brazilian star during the game.
“It’s football with Vinicius. What happens on the pitch stays on the pitch. He’s a very hot-headed player, just like me,” Gavi explained before revealing the phrase that quickly went viral: “I just told him to shut his mouth.”
Vinicius responded as well
The tension between the two players continued to build throughout several moments of the match. While Gavi tried to unsettle the Real Madrid forward verbally, Vinicius answered with one of his now familiar gestures toward rival fans.
The Brazilian held up the number 15 with his hands, referencing Real Madrid’s fifteen Champions League titles compared to Barcelona’s five — a gesture that once again ignited the atmosphere inside the stadium.
More than just an on-field confrontation
Beyond the controversy, the night carried a much deeper meaning for Gavi personally. The midfielder admitted that winning LaLiga after the physical struggles he endured over the last two years made the moment especially emotional.
The Spaniard battled through a long recovery process following serious knee injuries and acknowledged that mental strength was essential in helping him return to top-level football. “It’s not easy to play at this intensity after such serious injuries,” he admitted.
Flick played a key role
Gavi also took time to publicly thank Hansi Flick, the manager who helped restore him as a central figure in Barcelona’s midfield.
The player explained that the German coach showed complete trust in him even during the toughest moments of his recovery, something Gavi considers crucial in regaining his best form.
Eyes now on the World Cup
With another league title secured, Gavi’s next major objective will be reclaiming a leading role with the Spain national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
The midfielder made it clear that he feels physically and mentally stronger than ever and fully ready to become one of Spain’s key figures once again.
