Hansi Flick admits Barcelona are “not in a good moment” after losing top spot in Girona

The coach of FC Barcelona, Hansi Flick, acknowledged that his team is going through a difficult spell after falling to Girona FC on Monday and surrendering the LaLiga lead.

Following the defeat at Montilivi, the German manager refused to use the possible foul on Jules Koundé in the build-up to the decisive 2-1 goal as an excuse, though he hinted at his frustration.

“I don’t want to talk about it because I think everyone has seen the situation, but in the end Girona deserved it in the second half. They had many chances and we defended especially poorly in transition because we were too open,” explained Flick.

The Barça coach also revealed that the explanations given by referee César Soto Grado did not fully convince him, although he avoided diving deeper into the controversy so it would not sound like an excuse after the defeat.

Flick admitted he noticed his players lacking freshness, particularly after the 4-0 loss against Atlético de Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals, and conceded that it was more important than ever to win in Girona to stay in the title race.

The manager called for “hunger to win every match” and announced two days off for the squad to “reset” mentally before entering a decisive stretch of the season.

Despite the setback, Flick sent a calm message: he reminded everyone that the season is “a long journey” and insisted that Barcelona still have time to recover their best form and continue fighting for LaLiga and other trophies.
