Is Barcelona vs Real Madrid at Risk Because of a Strike?

  • With El Clásico approaching, a three-day strike involving Barcelona employees has raised questions about the organization of Sunday's highly anticipated match against Real Madrid.

Is Barcelona vs Real Madrid at risk of being postponed?

FC Barcelona confirmed on Thursday that Sunday's LaLiga clash against Real Madrid, scheduled for 4:00 PM ET, will go ahead as planned despite a strike called by a group of club employees.

The walkout is scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday after both sides failed to reach an agreement during conciliation proceedings at the Catalan Labor Tribunal.

Although the strike coincides with the weekend of the match against Real Madrid, Barcelona insist they have the organizational resources needed to stage the fixture.

Why are Barcelona employees going on strike?

The strike has been called by a group of approximately 60 seasonal employees on recurring contracts.

The workers say their working conditions have deteriorated, citing concerns including insufficient staffing to handle the logistics involved in hosting sporting events at the club's facilities.

With no agreement reached during Thursday's conciliation meeting, the planned three-day strike remains in place.

Barcelona insist El Clásico will go ahead

According to club sources speaking to Spanish news agency EFE, all professional team matches scheduled at Barcelona's facilities this weekend will take place as planned.

Barcelona say they have sufficient organizational capacity to deal with any issues that may arise during the strike.

The club also maintains that it can guarantee the fixtures without using replacement staffing practices that would violate labor laws.

As a result, Barcelona insist El Clásico will not be disrupted by the strike, even though the planned employee walkout has not been called off.
