Lamine Yamal Reveals His Family’s Tough Story: “My Grandmother Came Alone, Sneaking Onto the Bus”
Barcelona’s future star carries a story of sacrifice: Lamine Yamal revealed how his family emigrated to give him a better life.
Family Origins
At just 18 years old, Lamine Yamal is already one of the brightest talents in world football. But beyond his magic on the pitch, the FC Barcelona player carries a personal story marked by his family’s sacrifices. In a conversation with José Ramón de la Morena on the podcast Resonancia de Corazón, he revealed how his grandparents and parents emigrated from Morocco and Guinea before settling in Catalonia.
“The first to arrive, on my father’s side, was my grandmother, who came alone on a bus from Morocco. She sneaked onto the bus, stopped in Algeciras and Granada, and eventually made it to Mataró. She started working morning, afternoon, and night shifts to save enough to bring my father, who had stayed behind in Morocco with his sister,” the forward recalled.
A Childhood Defined by Sacrifice
Over the years, his mother’s side of the family also found a home in Catalonia. “My mother came from Guinea with my grandmother, and they settled in Barcelona. My parents met, and I grew up in a residence for young parents, where they provided meals for everyone,” remembered Lamine.
The Spanish international described his childhood naturally, split between Granollers, Mataró, and Barcelona, always marked by his parents’ determination to push forward. “We always lived in the typical way: a friend would lend us a room, and that’s where we stayed,” he admitted.

His Parents’ Separation
Another defining moment in his life was his parents’ separation. “My father went to live with my grandmother, and I stayed with my mother in Granollers. I would go to school, come back, train, and at night I’d see my mother, who had to leave for work at six,” he explained on the podcast.
These experiences shaped the personality of Lamine Yamal, who today combines talent and maturity to face the challenges of a future destined to leave his mark at Barcelona and with the Spanish national team.
