Michel demands 'top mentality' from Girona after Champions League exit
After their Champions League exit was confirmed on Wednesday, Girona switch their focus to a tough LaLiga clash with Rayo Vallecano.
Michel urged Girona to demonstrate "a top mentality" against Rayo Vallecano, and bounce back from their Champions League elimination in midweek.
The Blanquivermells' 1-0 defeat by AC Milan at San Siro on Wednesday saw their maiden campaign in Europe's premier club competition come to an end with a game to spare.
After collecting just three points from their five league-phase matches, courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Slovan Bratislava on matchday two, Michel's side will hope to bow out with another win when they host Arsenal on Wednesday.
Three days before welcoming Mikel Arteta's side, eighth-place Girona return to LaLiga action away at ninth-place Rayo Vallecano.
With his side just two points outside the European spots, Michel called for focus as resume their quest to secure a second successive campaign on the continent.
"The most important thing is how a player recovers, especially the young players," he told reporters during his pre-match press conference on Friday.
"Playing at the San Siro was an experience of euphoria, but then there's a downturn and this has to be short-lived.
"There is still a Champions League game that we have to enjoy and make the fans enjoy. After Arsenal, we will talk to the players about the dynamic we will take from then on. The league is the most important objective we have.
"At Rayo Vallecano, we need a top mentality, otherwise they will walk all over us.
"Rayo are like us. I've told the players that we have the squad to fight for Europe, but we have to get the points for the club to be strong."
