One Candidate Wants Messi Back at Barcelona: Two Years of Work Revealed to Make It Possible
Víctor Font reopens the debate over Leo Messi’s return to FC Barcelona. The presidential candidate for the Catalan club said this Friday that he has been “working for two and a half years” to rebuild the relationship with the club’s historic captain and make a possible return happen.
In an interview with El món a RAC1, Font explained that he has already shared this idea with Leo Messi’s entourage, although he stressed that the Argentine star — now playing for Inter Miami — should not take sides in the upcoming FC Barcelona presidential elections. “The club’s assets should not be involved in politics,” he said.

The businessman also made it clear that he does not plan to keep current sporting director Anderson de Souza ‘Deco’, describing him as a trusted figure of president Joan Laporta and Alejandro Echevarría, who plays an influential role in the club’s sporting decisions.
Font acknowledged that he cannot yet reveal the name of Deco’s potential replacement because “he is under contract,” but he assured that the future FC Barcelona sporting structure will be designed to better fit the project led by head coach Hansi Flick.
Asked about the possibility of the German manager requesting Deco’s continuity, Font said “that would be discussed,” but insisted he is “convinced” that his plan for the Barcelona technical department would appeal to the current coach.
