Madrid's opening fixture against Real Sociedad was postponed and has been rescheduled for Wednesday, August 26. As a result, the club's first LaLiga match of the season will come against RCD Espanyol on the second matchday.
Real Madrid to Make LaLiga Debut Against Espanyol
The Spanish giants will begin their 2026-27 LaLiga campaign in the second round of the season when they travel to face Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium.
The game is scheduled for Saturday, August 22 at 9:30 p.m. Spanish mainland time and will be played at the RCDE Stadium in Barcelona. In Spain, the match will be available to watch through DAZN and Orange TV.
The opening fixture will provide an early test for a Real Madrid side entering the new campaign with enormous expectations. The Spanish giants will be looking to begin their title challenge with three points away from home, while Espanyol will have the opportunity to make a strong statement against one of the competition's biggest favorites.
The match will also offer the first real opportunity to assess Madrid's early-season form. The team's tactical development, the integration of new players and the decisions made by the coaching staff will all attract plenty of attention from the opening whistle.
The postponed fixture against Real Sociedad will also create an unusual start to Madrid's league campaign. Just days after visiting Espanyol, the club will return to action to make up its postponed opening-day match.
For now, however, the focus is firmly on Barcelona. Espanyol will be Real Madrid's first obstacle of the 2026-27 LaLiga season, beginning a campaign in which the club will once again be expected to challenge for the biggest trophies in Spanish and European football.
