Toni Kroos Prepares for a Future in Coaching
Toni Kroos could be taking his first steps toward a coaching career. The Real Madrid legend has expressed interest in continuing his coaching education and is reportedly looking to enroll in a Spanish Football Federation course during the 2027-28 season.
Toni Kroos retired from professional football in 2024, but his next chapter could bring him back into a professional dressing room, this time with an entirely different responsibility.
The German, who spent a decade as one of Real Madrid's most important players, is reportedly interested in expanding his coaching qualifications after remaining involved in football through his academy.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, Kroos has already informed the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) of his intention to participate in a coaching course designed for former professional footballers during the 2027-28 season.
His objective would be to obtain a higher coaching qualification than the one he currently holds and continue preparing for a potential career as a manager.
For now, there has been no official announcement confirming his enrollment in the course or any agreement to take charge of a team.
The Coaching License Toni Kroos Wants to Obtain
The former midfielder already has some coaching qualifications, although he still needs to progress through the licensing system before being eligible to manage at the highest levels of European football.
According to AS, Kroos currently holds a qualification that allows him to work at certain lower levels and perform specific roles within a coaching staff.
The next step would be obtaining the UEFA A License, a qualification for which the RFEF offers specific programs designed for former professional players with extensive experience at the highest level.
The Federation establishes that these courses combine theoretical education with practical experience, preparing participants to take on responsibilities within a football team.
However, there is an important distinction: the UEFA A License alone does not qualify a coach to manage in Spain's First Division or Second Division. Those positions require a UEFA PRO License or an equivalent recognized qualification.
Therefore, Kroos would still need to complete additional stages of his coaching education before being eligible to take charge of a top-flight team.
Real Madrid Could Still Be Part of His Future
Although Kroos has yet to announce that he intends to become a professional manager, his name remains closely connected to Real Madrid.
The German left the Spanish giants after winning six UEFA Champions League titles throughout his career, five of them with Real Madrid, establishing himself as one of the most important players in the club's recent history.
His ability to control matches, read spaces, and dictate the tempo of play were among the qualities that defined his career.
According to AS, Real Madrid previously considered bringing him back into the club's sporting structure, although that possibility never materialized.
The relationship between both parties remains strong, but there is currently no official proposal for Kroos to join the first-team coaching staff.
Kroos Is Already Working With Young Footballers in Madrid
Since retiring, the German has not completely stepped away from the pitch.
Kroos remains involved in the football academy that bears his name in Boadilla del Monte, where he participates in a project focused on developing young players.
That work has allowed him to experience a different side of the sport, away from the pressure of competing every week and focused instead on nurturing the next generation of talent.
Having played under coaches such as Carlo Ancelotti, Pep Guardiola, and Jupp Heynckes, the former midfielder has gained valuable experience that could prove useful if he eventually decides to pursue a coaching career.
His potential enrollment in the coaching course does not mean he is in a hurry to return to professional football. However, it is a sign that he may be seriously considering that possibility.
