Will Guardiola Return to Barcelona? Here's What the Coach Had to Say
In an interview with GQ Magazine, Pep Guardiola addressed the topic of a potential return to FC Barcelona with a firm and final answer. While he acknowledged that his time at the Catalan club—both as a player and coach—was “very beautiful,” the current Manchester City boss made it clear: he won’t be going back. Not as a manager, and certainly not as club president.
“That chapter is over. It’s over for good. It was beautiful, but it’s done. Return as president? No, I’m not cut out for that,” said the 53-year-old coach, who also revealed plans to take an extended break after his time in England ends.
What Did Guardiola Say About His Post-City Future?
Guardiola shared that he already has his mind set on taking time off once his cycle with Manchester City ends—though he’s not sure for how long: “One year, two years, three, five, ten, fifteen…” The vagueness reflects a real desire to step away from the constant pressure of elite football, especially after a challenging campaign with the Citizens.
Despite remaining competitive, City endured one of their toughest runs under Guardiola: “We went 13 or 14 matches without a win. That had never happened before. But it grounds you. It was actually healthy for us.”
