Trailing Gimnasia by one point heading into the final matchday, San Lorenzo needed a miracle. While Independiente led 1-0 in La Plata, “Bambino” Veira’s squad had work to do in Rosario. Backed by a roaring crowd, a late cross from Brazilian Paulo Silas found striker “El Gallego” González, whose pinpoint header ended a 21-year title drought for San Lorenzo de Almagro.
