Paulo Fonseca, Lyon Coach, Banned for 9 Months
Lyon’s head coach, Paulo Fonseca, has been suspended until November 30 following a confrontation with a referee last Sunday, the French Professional Football League (LFP) announced on Wednesday.
Disciplinary Committee’s Restrictions
The Disciplinary Committee has banned Fonseca from the dugout, referees’ locker rooms, and performing any official duties before, during, and after matches. Additionally, until September 15, his suspension will extend to his own locker room, the pitch, and stadium corridors before, during, and after games, according to the LFP’s statement.
Reason Behind the Suspension
The punishment stems from Fonseca’s behavior toward referee Benoît Millot during last Sunday’s match against Brest. The Portuguese coach confronted the official and even threatened to headbutt him after receiving a red card.
