PSG draw but stay on their “unbeaten” path in Ligue 1
Paris Saint-Germain, already crowned league champions two rounds ago, took another step toward finishing the season undefeated, after a 1–1 draw away at Nantes on Tuesday.
Rotations with the Champions League in mind
Spanish coach Luis Enrique Martínez went with some squad rotation, keeping one eye on the crucial first leg of the Champions League semifinals against Arsenal. Players like Bradley Barcola and Ecuadorian William Pacho started on the bench, while Portuguese midfielder Vitinha played the full 90 minutes at La Beaujoire and ended up being one of the standout performers.
It was actually Vitinha who opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, pouncing on a loose ball in the box after a poor touch from Kang-in Lee. His goal summed up a dominant, though not dazzling, first half from PSG, who went into the break with the lead.
Nantes fight back to earn a point
The second half saw a much more aggressive Nantes, desperate for points given their position in the standings. The home side started pushing forward, though Luis Enrique’s subs — including Desiré Doué and the previously mentioned Barcola — helped steady the ship for PSG.
Still, the best chance of the half fell once again to Vitinha, whose strike was denied by a brilliant save from Swedish keeper Patrik Carlgren, who kept Nantes alive with some key stops. The equalizer finally came seven minutes from time, when Brazilian Douglas Augusto blasted a shot from the edge of the box to make it 1–1. It was a huge point for Nantes in their battle to avoid relegation. As for PSG, they almost stole the win in stoppage time when a header from Portuguese striker Gonçalo Ramos crashed off the crossbar.
