PSG Defends Its Ligue 1 Lead

PSG is back in action on Wednesday to defend their lead in the Ligue 1 standings.

While PSG’s 0-3 win at Brest saw the reigning league champions return to the top of the table after a week behind Marseille, the Parisians can’t afford to relax. There are currently five teams within three points of PSG, meaning any slip-up could cost them the lead.

Lorient’s Battle for Survival

On Wednesday, Luis Enrique’s side returns to the northwest region of Brittany — the same area where last Saturday’s opponents were located. This time, they face Lorient, a team recently promoted from Ligue 2 that’s now fighting to avoid relegation.

Lorient sits third-from-bottom in the standings with only two wins from nine matches. Their latest loss came in painful fashion against fellow relegation contenders Angers, a defeat that deepened their struggles and increased the pressure heading into this midweek clash.

Hakimi Rested for Midweek Clash

For the visitors, Achraf Hakimi will not make the trip. The Moroccan defender, who netted twice in the win over Brest, has been granted a brief rest period and is not expected to return to training until Thursday.
