Mascherano to Become Messi's New Coach at Inter Miami
Inter Miami has reportedly found its new manager to lead the team for the 2025 season and the Club World Cup. According to César Luis Merlo, Javier Mascherano is set to take the helm of the Florida-based club, taking on the challenge of coaching Lionel Messi, a former teammate at both FC Barcelona and the Argentine National Team.
Following the departure of Gerardo "Tata" Martino, who opted not to continue after a historic yet ultimately unsuccessful MLS playoff campaign, Mascherano has emerged as the top choice to guide Las Garzas into a new chapter. The former midfielder will step down as coach of Argentina's Under-20 National Team, where he gained valuable experience, to sign a three-year contract with an optional fourth year based on performance.
Nicknamed "El Jefecito," Mascherano’s mission will be to elevate Inter Miami's MLS performance while preparing the squad for its debut in the 2025 Club World Cup, a milestone for the franchise. His close connection to Messi and deep understanding of elite football are seen as pivotal advantages in establishing a solid foundation for the team’s future.
The club's management, led by David Beckham, is optimistic that Mascherano will bring the winning mentality required to achieve new heights. Despite it being his first professional club coaching role, his leadership skills and rapport with the team's core players, including Messi and Jordi Alba, make him a bold yet promising choice.
An official announcement is expected in the coming hours, signaling the start of a new era for Inter Miami as they aim to become contenders both in MLS and on the global stage.
