Messi’s Inter Miami Set to Announce New Head Coach Soon
Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas has announced that the club has chosen the coach who will replace Gerardo "Tata" Martino and plans to make the announcement in the coming days.
During a press conference held shortly after Martino confirmed his departure due to "strictly personal reasons," Mas explained that the decision was made on Wednesday by himself, his brother José, David Beckham, and Raül Sanllehí.
"This is an extremely attractive position for any coach. On Tuesday, we had a shortlist of three final candidates, and David, my brother, Raül, and I made the decision the day before yesterday," Mas said.
"We’ll announce the new coach in the coming days," he added.
While Mas declined to provide further details about the new hire, reports in Argentina suggest it could be Javier Mascherano, who is said to have already stepped down as head coach of Argentina’s U-20 national team.
If confirmed, Mascherano would reunite with his former teammates Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Luis Suárez from their time at FC Barcelona.
In addition to domestic and Concacaf competitions, Inter Miami will participate in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States.
Inter Miami received an invitation from FIFA as the host nation’s representative and will open the tournament on June 15 in Miami.
Martino announced his departure on Friday, two weeks after the club’s unexpected elimination in the first round of the MLS playoffs, where they were considered favorites.
"For strictly personal reasons, I have to leave Inter. We won’t return next year. I need to be in Rosario (Argentina) for personal reasons," Martino explained.
