Lionel Messi is already in Oviedo, and his arrival was enough to send the city into a frenzy. The Argentine landed on a private jet from Miami before heading to the Hotel Reconquista, where dozens of fans were waiting in hopes of getting a photo or simply catching a glimpse of him.
Messi arrived with his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo. Both dressed in black, they stopped to greet several supporters gathered outside the hotel.

Another Major Honor for Messi’s Career
The reason for the trip is the Princess of Asturias Award for Sports, which Messi will receive on Friday during a ceremony at the Teatro Campoamor.
The award adds another chapter to a career already packed with individual and team honors. Messi arrives in Oviedo as one of the biggest names of this year’s ceremony, with an institutional schedule that will occupy almost his entire stay in Spain.
The recognition also puts the Argentina captain back in the spotlight away from the pitch before he quickly returns to the United States to resume his club commitments.
A Nonstop Schedule Before the Ceremony
Messi’s stay will be brief but intense. On Thursday at 5:30 p.m., he is scheduled to take part in an event with students, members of the academic community and the general public at the Palacio de los Deportes.
Later that night, he will attend an official dinner with the King and Queen of Spain and the other award recipients. On Friday, the day will begin at 11:40 a.m. with a royal reception at the Hotel Reconquista, where the honorees will receive a commemorative pin and take part in the official group photo.
An official lunch will follow before Messi heads to the Teatro Campoamor at 6:30 p.m. for the Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony.
From Oviedo Straight Back to His Next Match
Messi’s schedule will not end with the ceremony. The plan is for him to fly to New York on Friday night and immediately begin his return to the United States.
Time is tight because Inter Miami have another match on Saturday night, and the Argentine is expected to rejoin the team after receiving the award.
It will therefore be a whirlwind trip: arriving from Miami, two days of official events, one of the biggest honors of his career and an immediate return to football.
