Lewandowski Still Waiting For His First MLS Goal After Another Chicago Fire Defeat
Robert Lewandowski's start to life in Major League Soccer has been far from ideal. The Polish striker once again failed to find the back of the net as the Chicago Fire suffered a second straight defeat since his arrival.
A Difficult Start For Lewandowski
Robert Lewandowski's new chapter in the United States has yet to get off the ground.
After leaving Barcelona at the end of his contract, the Polish striker arrived in Major League Soccer as one of the league's marquee signings. However, his first two appearances for the Chicago Fire have both ended in defeat, with the veteran forward still searching for his first goal.
Another Loss Without A Goal
After making his debut in the starting lineup earlier in the week, Lewandowski began Chicago Fire's visit to New York City FC on the bench.
The veteran striker came on at halftime with his team already trailing 3-1. Although he managed to register a shot on target and looked to spark a comeback, he was unable to change the outcome as Chicago suffered another disappointing defeat under head coach Gregg Berhalter.
Defensive Problems Continue
While Lewandowski's scoring drought has drawn attention, Chicago Fire's biggest concern remains at the other end of the field.
The team conceded three first-half goals and once again exposed defensive weaknesses that proved costly. Berhalter's side has now slipped to fourth place in the Eastern Conference, losing ground to the league's top contenders.
Improving at the back will be just as important as getting their new star striker on the scoresheet.
Pressure Begins To Build
Although Lewandowski is only two matches into his MLS career, expectations remain extremely high.
The former Barcelona star arrived in Chicago to lead the club's new era and become one of the faces of Major League Soccer. But after back-to-back defeats and no goals to show for his efforts, attention is already turning to when the prolific striker will finally open his account and help Chicago Fire get back to winning ways.
