The Tournament Messi Is Launching in Search of New Talent
Lionel Messi kicks off a global 1v1 soccer competition that will travel through multiple cities before crowning its champions in Miami.
Lionel Messi continues to innovate in the world of soccer—this time, off the pitch. The Argentine legend is leading a new project: an international 1v1 football tournament aimed at uncovering rising stars. The competition, titled Más+ 1v1 World Crown, will make stops in Los Angeles, Toronto, London, and Dublin before its grand finale in Miami on September 19.
This new initiative, backed by Más+ by Messi, was created to give up-and-coming male and female players a chance to shine in head-to-head matchups. The tournament format is fast-paced, featuring quick duels where the first to score three points moves on to the next round. It’s a structure that emphasizes individual skill, creativity, and decision-making.
Messi to Attend the Final in Miami
While not a professional tournament, the event is already generating buzz thanks to Messi’s direct involvement. He will personally take part in selecting some of the participants and will present the trophies to the winners. There are also wildcard spots available for those who submit videos showcasing their talent, adding an inclusive twist to the selection process.
Key tournament dates include the first qualifier on August 2 in Los Angeles, followed by stops in Toronto (August 16), London (August 23), and Dublin (September 6). The top players from each location will gather in Miami on September 19 for the final showdown.
A Unique Platform to Showcase Talent
Far from the stadium lights and million-dollar contracts, this tournament is rooted in the essence of street football—passion, grit, and joy for the game. “Football is more than just results and trophies. This tournament is about passion and creativity,” said Messi during the announcement.
Winners will receive a $5,000 cash prize and a replica of the World Crown, handcrafted by jeweler Joe Bazanetti, the same artisan behind Messi’s eight Ballon d'Or rings. More than a trophy, the crown is a symbol of recognition and achievement for undiscovered talent.
