From Real Madrid to Lamine Yamal's Shadow: Pablo Rodríguez Aims to Shine in the Polish Clásico
- The 25-year-old Spanish attacking midfielder has recorded 16 goal contributions for Lech Poznań, just four behind Lamine Yamal. A Real Madrid academy product, he heads into the Polish Clasico in outstanding form.
The Polish Clasico between Legia Warsaw and Lech Poznań will feature a Spanish player whose numbers are turning heads. Pablo Rodríguez, a 25-year-old attacking midfielder developed in Real Madrid's academy, is enjoying an impressive spell with Lech Poznań.
The match takes place on Sunday, October 25, at 12:25 PM ET, with Legia hosting the encounter.
Rodríguez has registered eight goals and eight assists this season, giving him 16 direct goal contributions. That puts him just four behind the 20 recorded by Lamine Yamal at Barcelona.
The Spaniard has become one of Lech Poznań's standout performers, although he insists that chasing individual statistics is not his main priority.
Pablo Rodríguez and Lamine Yamal: two Spaniards posting impressive numbers
Rodríguez's performances stand out even more when compared with those of other Spanish players competing across European leagues.
According to Marca, Lamine Yamal leads the ranking with 20 goal contributions, including 10 goals and 10 assists.
Rodríguez follows with 16, ahead of Jordi Sánchez, Predrag Muñoz and Fermín López.
| Player | Club | Goals | Assists | Total |
| Lamine Yamal | Barcelona | 10 | 10 | 20 |
| Pablo Rodríguez | Lech Poznań | 8 | 8 | 16 |
| Jordi Sánchez | Pogoń Szczecin | 9 | 1 | 10 |
| Predrag Muñoz | Santa Coloma | 6 | 3 | 9 |
| Fermín López | Barcelona | 5 | 4 | 9 |
Despite those impressive numbers, Rodríguez prefers to focus on enjoying his soccer rather than setting statistical targets.
“I don't set limits”: Pablo Rodríguez's new mindset
In an interview with Marca, the midfielder explained that his main objective is to enjoy the game after several challenging seasons.
"I don't set limits for myself. This could be my season with the most goals and assists, but I don't want to focus on the numbers."
The Spaniard acknowledged that he had not always enjoyed his career as much as he would have liked.
"I want to try to enjoy everything I perhaps haven't enjoyed over the past four or five years, when you're supposed to be enjoying it the most."
He also offered advice to younger players, encouraging them to appreciate every stage of their careers and remember why they love the game.

Confidence and stability behind his impressive form
Rodríguez believes his improvement is closely linked to consistency and renewed self-confidence.
The midfielder recalled periods marked by loan spells, injuries and difficulties reaching his best level.
"I mainly attribute this improvement to the consistency I've shown and to regaining my confidence thanks to the people who never stopped believing in me."
He also emphasized the importance of his mental development.
According to Rodríguez, he has now gone four years without an injury, having previously struggled with the fear of suffering another setback.
"I wasn't as well prepared mentally before. I kept thinking I was going to get injured. I think that's one of the biggest things I've changed."
Lech Poznań offered the project Rodríguez was looking for
The decision to join Lech Poznań came from his desire to find stability and a club that genuinely believed in his abilities.
"I came to Lech because I found people who believed in me."
Rodríguez explained that he wanted to spend two or three years at a competitive club with European ambitions and a clear plan to help him regain his best form.
The midfielder also praised the growth of the Ekstraklasa, highlighting its supporters, stadiums and improving standard of play.
"The league, the fans, the stadiums... they've really surprised me. The level of the Ekstraklasa is improving enormously."
Polish Clasico offers another stage for his ambitions
Having won the league last season, Rodríguez is determined to keep adding trophies with Lech Poznań.
The Spaniard wants to defend the league title, win the domestic cup and advance as far as possible in the Europa League.
The club has already lifted the Super Cup, but the midfielder believes there is still plenty more to achieve.
His next challenge comes against Legia Warsaw in one of Polish soccer's fiercest rivalries.
