Manchester City has reportedly completed the signing of Brazilian starlet from Palmeiras at Guardiola's request
Manchester City has completed the signing of Vitor Reis, a young Brazilian central defender, aged 19, from Palmeiras for a fee close to 40 million dollars. This transfer is part of the "Citizens'" strategy to reinforce their defensive line, especially after the injuries suffered in the current season. The addition of Reis comes alongside other signings, like Kushanov, further strengthening the defense of the team managed by Pep Guardiola.
The deal was confirmed by well-known journalist Fabrizio Romano, who stated that a verbal agreement had already been reached between Manchester City and Palmeiras. The transfer, which closed for a figure below 40 million dollars, includes the possibility of Reis joining the English club immediately, although negotiations are still ongoing.
Palmeiras wanted Reis to play in the Club World Cup before the transfer
Although Palmeiras wanted the Brazilian defender to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 before finalizing his transfer, Manchester City intends to bring the player in as soon as possible. According to close sources, the deal includes the possibility of Reis joining the team before the tournament.
Vitor Reis, who debuted with Palmeiras' first team in 2024, has shown great potential in his early appearances, playing 22 matches and scoring two goals. His talent has been recognized both nationally and internationally, and he had already been part of Brazil’s U-17 national team, where he captained the squad in their World Cup campaign.
Part of Manchester City's long-term plan
This signing is part of Manchester City's plan to rejuvenate its defense, an area that has seen significant investment in recent years. In addition to Reis, the club is still in talks to reinforce other positions, with names like Uzbek defender Abdukodir Khusanov and striker Omar Marmoush on the list of potential arrivals.
With this new addition, City continues to solidify its long-term project, aiming for a balance between experience and youth in the squad, hoping players like Vitor Reis will become key pieces in the club's future successes, both in the Premier League and international competitions.
