Manchester United: Why Was Matthijs De Ligt’s Face Covered in Blood?
Manchester United footballer Matthijs De Ligt left us stunned as blood covered his entire face, and it’s nothing short of an act of bravery to decide to continue playing in order to help his team secure the victory, though many are already questioning if it was the right decision.
What happened to De Ligt during the match vs Brentford?
Matthijs De Ligt collided with Sepp Van Den Berg’s knee in a duel for the ball at Old Trafford during the Premier League match between Manchester United and Brentford, leaving the former Bayern player with a bloody gash on his head.
The Dutch center-back was absent for a few minutes to treat the injury but decided to continue playing when his wound reopened. His head injury began to bleed profusely for the second time when the Bees earned a corner-kick.
The Dutchman’s absence led to Brentford scoring the first goal in injury time after Damsgaard’s corner. The Red Devils went into the break very angry, with the fans booing the referee for his decisions.
It was a controversial goal on social media, but the recklessness of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff cost his players dearly. Even so, De Ligt wasn’t replaced in the second half. However, the hosts managed to correct their mistakes to come from behind at Old Trafford.
