Nottingham Forest Keeps the Champions League Dream Alive
Nottingham Forest climbed to third place in the Premier League after defeating Brentford on the road, with goals from Ola Aina and Anthony Elanga (0-2).
The 'Tricky Trees' secured their third consecutive win and their seventh in the last ten matches at one of the Premier League's toughest stadiums, Brentford's, where the home team hadn’t been held scoreless since May 4, in a 0-0 draw against Fulham.
The team led by Nuno Espírito Santo opened the scoring in the 38th minute when Chris Wood failed to reach a low cross from Neco Williams, but Aina capitalized at the far post, firing against the goalkeeper Mark Flekken to find the net.
In the second half, after Matz Sels made key saves to keep Forest's clean sheet, Elanga took advantage of a poor control by Keane Lewis-Potter, stole the ball, and finished calmly into the corner to seal the victory.
After 17 matches, Forest remains in the top tier of the standings, sitting third with 31 points, one more than Arsenal and three more than Aston Villa. Only Chelsea and Liverpool are ahead, with 34 and 36 points respectively, though they have one and two games in hand.
Meanwhile, Brentford sits 12th with 23 points.
