Pep Guardiola Issues Apology to City Player Over Comment on His Physique
Pep Guardiola, Manchester City's coach, apologized to his former player Kalvin Phillips for a comment where he said he was 'overweight.'
The Spanish coach made this remark after Phillips returned from the Qatar World Cup where he played with England and was left out of a League Cup tie against Liverpool.
In an interview earlier this month, after Phillips completed his loan to West Ham United, the midfielder stated that the comment "affected his confidence."
"I'm sorry. I apologize to him," said Guardiola before facing Brentford this Tuesday.
Phillips joined City in the summer of 2022 for almost 50 million euros but played in only 31 games across all competitions in a season and a half.
The midfielder has been loaned to West Ham, where he hasn't had much luck either. He lost three out of the four games he played, scored an own goal, and was sent off in the last match against Nottingham Forest.
