A NBA Legend Now Owns a Premier League Team
Dallas Mavericks head coach and NBA Hall of Famer Jason Kidd has officially joined the ownership group of English Premier League side Everton FC.
Jason Kidd’s entry into Everton’s ownership comes as part of Roundhouse Capital Holdings, a division of The Friedkin Group, which completed its acquisition of Everton in December 2024. Led by American billionaire Dan Friedkin, the group is best known for its stewardship of Serie A club AS Roma and now brings its expertise and ambition to Merseyside.
For Kidd, this is more than just a financial venture. “I’m honored to be joining Everton’s ownership at such an important moment,” Kidd said in a statement. “With a new stadium on the horizon and a bright future ahead, it’s a great moment to come on board and help write the next chapter for this great club.”
Everton’s New Ambitions
Kidd’s arrival coincides with a period of transformation for Everton. The club is preparing to move into the stunning new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium for the 2025-26 season, a project that has energized fans and attracted global attention.
On the pitch, Everton has stabilized under the leadership of manager David Moyes, who returned to Goodison Park in early 2024. After several turbulent seasons, the Toffees now sit in 13th, with a renewed sense of optimism and a commitment to building a squad capable of challenging for upper places.

Kidd’s Sporting Pedigree
Jason Kidd brings a championship pedigree and a wealth of experience in elite sports environments. As a 10-time NBA All-Star, 2011 NBA champion, and current head coach of the Mavericks, Kidd is no stranger to high-pressure situations and the demands of building a winning culture.
His leadership and insight are expected to be invaluable assets as Everton embarks on this new era. Everton executive chairman Marc Watts welcomed Kidd’s involvement, praising his “knowledge and winning mentality” and describing him as “an incredible resource for our club, both on and off the pitch.”
Kidd’s investment follows his previous interest in English football, having been part of a group that attempted to acquire Crystal Palace in 2024. He also has experience in football ownership through his involvement with USL Championship teams Oakland Roots and Oakland Soul.
Strengthening Transatlantic Ties
Kidd’s move continues a growing trend of American sports figures and business leaders investing in English football. Everton already enjoys a strong American connection, with former U.S. internationals Tim Howard and Landon Donovan having played key roles for the club in the past.
With a new stadium rising on the Liverpool waterfront, a new managerial hand, and now the influence of an NBA legend in the boardroom, Everton is poised for an exciting future. Jason Kidd’s involvement becomes a statement of intent from a club determined to reclaim its place among the Premier League’s elite.
