'Better things will come' for Man Utd, insists Amorim
Manchester United were beaten at Old Trafford once again in the Premier League, with Crystal Palace 2-0 victors on Sunday.
Ruben Amorim insisted "better things will come" after Manchester United suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
Jean-Philippe Mateta scored both goals in the second half for Palace, turning in from close range in the 64th minute before netting his second in the dying stages.
It is the fifth defeat Amorim has overseen in seven top-flight matches at Old Trafford, while it is the seventh loss United have suffered in 13 home league games, their most at this stage of a league campaign since 1893-94.
In fact, since the start of last season, only Wolves (16) have lost more Premier League home matches than United's 13.
The defeat saw Palace leapfrog the Red Devils in the table, leaving them in 13th place and five points off the top half.
"The result is really bad. The performance was a little bit better than the last games," Amorim told Sky Sports.
"We suffered two goals that we could avoid, and the injury to Lisandro Martinez [who was stretchered off] was tough for the team.
"It's normal for the fans to feel negative, it is a hard season for them, but football can change in certain moments. I will prepare for the next game and move forward. Better things will come."
United have failed to score in the first half of 18 matches in the competition this term, more than any other team, while it is the ninth time they have failed to hit the back of the net.
They had 17 chances, bettering Palace's 11, but only tested Dean Henderson twice. They also only created 1.31 expected goals (xG) compared to Palace's 2.61.
Amorim chose not to start with a recognised striker on Sunday, bringing on Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee in a double substitution in the 70th minute, and he was left lamenting missed chances at the end of the game.
"During the game, I felt that the team did some things well," Amorim told BBC Match of the Day.
"We take some things from the performance, but not the result. It is a hard season at this moment, the players try different things to improve. We need to move forward.
"We had more possession, more connections, we created chances, but we couldn't score and that was the difference today.
"I didn't feel that [there was extra pressure playing at home], but it is difficult to play here because we want to please our fans. This season is going to be like that, I said it from the first day."
