Emery insists 'there is still work to do' after Villa boost Champions League ambitions
Aston Villa climbed to fifth place in the Premier League, but require favours from elsewhere to secure Champions League football next term.
Unai Emery acknowledged "there is still work to do" for Aston Villa, despite boosting their Champions League ambitions with a 2-0 victory over Tottenham.
Second-half goals from Ezri Konsa and Boubacar Kamara lifted Emery's side into the Premier League's top five - a point above sixth-place Manchester City, who play Bournemouth on Tuesday.
It was a ninth win in 11 league games for in-form Villa, whose tally of 24 points since the start of March is the most by any side in the division.
Nevertheless, they must beat Manchester United on the final day of the season and hope for favours from elsewhere to secure a return to the Champions League, in which they reached the quarter-finals this term.
"I am very happy," Emery told Sky Sports. "Today, we closed out our season here with our supporters trying to transmit our energy.
"We won, but there is still work to do to have a chance to play in the Champions League. We have to try and keep the inconsistencies down and focus.
"Spurs competed well and did a fantastic job. We were speaking at half-time about the difficulties we were facing, and to be consistent and demanding in our game plan."
Meanwhile, Konsa spoke of the players' desire to compete in Europe's premier club competition for a second season in succession.
The defender, who scored only his second Premier League goal of the season, also told of how the opener came as a result of hard work behind the scenes.
"We worked on that specific corner, and it came off," Konsa added. "We knew we had to score early in the second half and give the fans something to cheer for.
"We knew today was a must-win. We want to play Champions League football again. We knew Tottenham had a final on Wednesday [against Manchester United in the Europa League], but we needed to stay focused and win.
"We had a taste of it this season, and, for us as players, it's a competition you want to play in. It's the main goal for us going into the last game.
"It's not in our hands as yet, but we'll do all we can."
