'I let emotions get the better of me', admits Liverpool boss Slot after derby red card
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot admitted that he did not control his emotions properly during the fracas at Goodison Park on Wednesday.
Arne Slot felt his emotions got the better of him after he was shown a red card in the aftermath of their 2-2 draw with Everton.
Slot was sent off after full-time at Goodison Park on Wednesday, after confronting referee Michael Oliver.
The official had sent off Liverpool's Curtis Jones and Everton's Abdoulaye Doucoure for a fracas at the end of the game.
Speaking in the press conference ahead of their home game against Wolves, Slot suggested that he regretted his behaviour.
"What happened was that, during the stoppage time, there was a lot that happened and the emotions got the better of me," he said.
"I would have loved to do it differently if I could go back. I hope to do it differently the next time as well. But on what happened and what was said, I told you it was an ongoing process and I don't want to disturb that."
Despite the Premier League initially suggesting that he would serve a two-match touchline ban, his punishment has not been confirmed and he could be in the dugout at Anfield on Sunday.
"That is an ongoing process now and we have to respect that. So I can't go into the details," he said.
Slot also acknowledged the contribution of Matheus Cunha for Wolves, with the striker having scored 11 league goals.
"If you go to the Dutch league and look at the team in 17th place, there is no player who could play for Ajax, PSV or Feyenoord. But Matheus Cunha is a quality player and he has the quality to play for one of the top five teams in England," said Slot.
"That is why it is so much more difficult to win a game against the 17th team in England compared to the one in the Netherlands. So it's going to be a tough game on Sunday as well."
Wolves head coach Vitor Pereira, meanwhile, thinks that the team are improving under his guidance and gave praise to forward Goncalo Guedes, who has two goals and four assists in the league this season.
"Guedes, he has skills to decide a game in a second. In a few seconds, he can decide a game, because he's a scorer. The finishing is very good, he has the power to run with the ball and to dribble and to accelerate the game in the moment.
"He knows the spaces that he needs to be to receive the ball. He knows how to find these spaces. But now I can speak about the moment and he is an important player for us."
When asked if Guedes was happy at the club, Pereira said: "Very happy. he's laughing every time.
"I think it's the energy. The energy in the air, it's not love in the air, but it's the energy in the air."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Fulham – Mohamed Salah
Salah has scored 100 goals in 139 Premier League appearances at Anfield, one of just four players to score 100+ at a single venue in the competition, along with Thierry Henry at Highbury (114), Sergio Aguero at the Etihad (106), and Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford (101).
He currently leads the way in the Premier League for goals and assists (22G 14A) and comes into this on the back of a goal and assists away to Everton on Wednesday.
Wolves – Matheus Cunha
Cunha has scored 16 of his 25 Premier League goals in away games (64%); among players with as many or more goals in the competition than the Brazilian, only Marcus Bent (67.5%), Roque Santa Cruz (65.4%), and Rod Wallace (64.4%) have scored a higher proportion away from home.
He is the only Wolves player this season to have scored more than seven league goals (11) and has scored five in his last nine appearances.
MATCH PREDICTION: LIVERPOOL WIN
Liverpool have won 15 of their last 16 Premier League meetings with Wolves, while Wolves have lost nine of their 10 Premier League away games at Liverpool.
Wolves have also lost all seven of their Premier League away games against sides starting the day top of the table.
After avoiding defeat in both of their first two Premier League away games under Pereira (W1 D1), Wolves have since lost both of their last two on the road.
Only Leicester City (32) have conceded more away goals in the Premier League this season than Wolves (28). Should Wolves concede twice here, it will be the first time they have shipped 30+ goals within their first 13 away games of a league campaign since 2003-04.
