Postecoglou warns Tottenham 'playing with fire' without January signings
Tottenham are without 12 first-team players heading into Sunday's Premier League outing, and Ange Postecoglou wants reinforcements.
Ange Postecoglou warned injury-hit Tottenham would be "playing with fire" if they fail to bolster their struggling squad in the January transfer window.
Spurs sit 15th in the Premier League table heading into the weekend's action, having slumped to a 3-2 defeat against Everton at Goodison Park last time out in the competition.
Their campaign has been significantly hampered by injuries, with 12 first-team players out injured, including the likes of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario.
Brennan Johnson, Yves Bissouma and first-choice striker Dominic Solanke have all added to that growing injury list in the last week, and Postecoglou acknowledged Spurs must act to find replacements.
"I don't think I'm stating anything other than the obvious and for me to come here and say something else would be disingenuous," he said on Friday.
"This playing group needs help, there's no doubt about that.
"We're sort of playing with fire by not bringing anyone in, but the flip side of that is the club is trying to change that situation."
Goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky has been the only arrival this month, with Spurs struggling to find a squad large enough to compete in the Premier League, Europa League, EFL Cup and FA Cup.
Spurs next host struggling Leicester City on Sunday, though no new signings are expected before that clash as Postecoglou continues to fight seemingly without the required tools for success.
The former Celtic boss refused to criticise the club's hierarchy, including director Johan Lange, despite urging for swift action in the transfer market.
Asked if there was money to spend, Postecoglou replied: "I don't ask those questions. It's not something I'm involved in, it's not something I have exposure to.
"My discussions with Johan and the club have been about trying to get some help for the players, and I'll let them do their jobs.
"I've still got to manage this team and get them ready. We got back at 2 am last night. I'm not out there trying to find opportunities for the club, that's not my role at this time. There isn't time to do it.
"I have daily communication with Johan in particular, and he's trying everything he possibly can to get the help we need."
