OFFICIAL: Ángel Di María Will Continue Playing in Europe
The Argentine winger will continue playing in Europe after renewing his contract with Benfica for another season.
Ángel Di María renewed his contract with Benfica until 2025 and stated that he is "hungry" to win more titles with the Portuguese club.
The Portuguese team announced the renewal on their social media, confirming that the 36-year-old Argentine international will spend his fifth season with the 'Eagles.'
In an interview with Benfica's media, the Albiceleste winger expressed his "happiness" to spend another year with the team, which finished second last season behind Sporting CP, and to have the opportunity to "achieve the titles" that he missed out on last year.
Regarding the compliments from his teammates, he said he was pleased, calling it "something very nice," but added that he is just "a normal guy" who always tries to win.
He mentioned that he generally tries to support and help his teammates and emphasized that he begins the season with "hunger" for more titles: "Since I started until today, what I’ve always wanted are titles," he said.
The former Real Madrid player joined Benfica in July 2023 from Juventus, although he had previously spent three seasons at the Portuguese club.
During this second stint at Benfica, discussions about 'Fideo’s' continuity had been recurring, especially after threats to his family in his hometown of Rosario.
Benfica's coach, Roger Schmidt, stated last April that Ángel Di María's career is one of the best "in all of football" and that his successful return to Benfica is a "fantastic story."
