Legendary Barcelona Forward Extends Contract With Lazio at Age 38
Veteran Spanish striker Pedro Rodríguez will continue playing for Lazio until June 2026, reaffirming his commitment to the Italian club as he approaches his 38th birthday.
Pedro Continues to Shine in Serie A
Lazio announced on Monday that Pedro Rodríguez has renewed his contract with the club until June 30, 2026. The former Barcelona and Chelsea forward, who turns 38 next month, remains an important piece in the team's project.
“S.S. Lazio announces the renewal of the contract of footballer Pedro Rodríguez, who will remain with the Biancocelesti until June 30, 2026,” the club said in an official statement. Since joining from Roma in the 2021-2022 season, Pedro has played 176 matches and scored 34 goals.
A Veteran Leader On and Off the Pitch
World and European champion with Spain, and a winner of every major club title with Barcelona and Chelsea, Pedro has become a key figure in Lazio’s squad. The club highlighted his “experience, balance, and dedication,” stating that his leadership will be “crucial for the upcoming season.”
This past season was among his most productive in recent years. Pedro netted 10 goals in Serie A and added 4 more in the Europa League, his best tally since the 2013-2014 season, when he scored 15 times with Barcelona. A standout moment came when he scored twice against Inter Milan in the penultimate league match, dealing a blow to Inter’s title hopes and helping Napoli claim the championship.
Back in July 2023, Pedro had already expressed his desire to end his career at Lazio, a club where he has found consistency, affection from the fans, and an important leadership role. With this contract extension, he continues to defy age and proves that his experience still holds great value in European football.
